It’s no secret that I have a long list of attainable dream cars. The second gen Corvair is high on that list. And look at this beauty. That color is something.
The Corvair ticks a lot of boxes, it’s gorgeous, they’re cheap, it’s weird, and did I meantion it’s gorgeous. Also they usually have color match wheels.
Sadly it’s automatic. 2 speeds ain’t enough.

Here’s the link. I couldn’t paste it for some reason earlier https://www.ebay.com/itm/1966-Chevrolet-Corvair-Monza/162892031665?hash=item25ed1f26b1:g:ChEAAOSwLUpae59w&vxp=mtr

I love corvairs. I’ve noticed Way more driving projects in Minnesota than in Oregon. So I’m tempted.

This one has been calling my name. I thought real hard about looking about it, but it dint really fit into the “comfy newer family car” box I was looking for. https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/cto/d/1965-chevrolet-corvair-4/6514482803.html

Pretty car and color - but yeah I’d want the speed.

Very nice! I love these as well. This is definitely a car that demands a 4-speed.

Yes. Part of my Corvair dreams include a Rally Corvair with knobby tires, big mud flaps, a nice retro livery and lights.

If you search the tag RallyMetro, you will find pics of me pulling out a 2nd gen Corvair sitting on a Blazer frame. It was pretty BA.

The Corvair is #23 on my list of attainable cars. My dad had a Corvair project car for a number of years. It was very cool.

Some weird things on that car. All the emblems are missing along with the rocker trim and wheel well trim. How much mud/patching is in the body? Missing Monza emblems on the front doglegs are usually a red flag for rust repair, though there is still a panel line where it meets the rocker, so it’s not pure bondo.
The 140/pg combo isn’t bad and this is an A/C car. No indication whether it works. Obviously 140/4 is more fun. AM/FM radio is rare.
Wheels and seats are obviously non-standard and why on a $12K car is there overspray on the tires? Finish on the instrument cluster is missing.
I dunno. I wouldn’t pay that for it. You can get into a nice Corsa for half that if you shop.

I have become an expert on all the interesting places Corvairs rust and the horrifying things people do to avoid fixing it correctly. :)

Also - no late-model Corvair ever had rally wheels. The closest was fake wire-wheel hubcaps. Those are off an Oldsmobile, I think.

Oh funny I thought they were stock because this one has the same wheels. It’s been for sale for at least 6 months https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/cto/d/1965-chevrolet-corvair-4/6514482803.html

Corvairs desperately wanted a 14" wheels. GM mandated 13" because they were part of the economy line. A lot of cars inherited bigger wheels from other GM cars. I ran 70s Camaro rallies on mine for a while. The Olds ones are popular too.
The handling improves dramatically with wider tires, particularly on the rear. I had 195/70R14 up front and 205/70R14 on the rear and any questions about stability in the corners just vanished. You could sling it into a corner and it would just dig in and hold it. On stock wheels and tires (180/85R13 IIRC), it felt skittish to me.

I doubt you could even find a tire that size anymore

They do exist, but yeah, it’s not easy. A lot of people go for the 75 series tire (85 series is 66-69, 75 is 1965) which makes the later cars look badly under-tired.
